main sheet rigging

I can't figure out how to attach the main sheet (with the block / pulley system) to the stainless steel rod on the transom of my '83 Starwind 19'. The pelican clip on the end of the block looks like it's supposed th just clip over this horizontal rod. Is there supposed to be some kind of car or nylon traveler which goes on the rod.

I must be missing a part . The metal fitting / on metal rod seems a poor way to install this...it isn't only noisey, it is certainly a bad wear point.

Welcome to the forum. I bought my S19 in July and was fortunate to have the previous owner show me the ropes, so to speak. The main sheet block does indeed clip to the s/s cross-member on the stern rail. There should be a s/s traveler there, with a bracket to connect the pelican hook. I don't know how the traveler could have come off, as it looks to me as if it were slid onto the cross-member during assembly and was never meant to be removed. Maybe the hurricane did more trouble than thought?

If you're missing the traveler, you might be able to get creative with a D-ring or caribeener (sp?) or the like. Others on this site may also have suggestions.

The Catalina 22 uses an identical arrangement for the traveler as does the Starwind 19. What you need is the "traveler car". The car unbolts to allow installation on the traveler bar.

Additionally, you'll need two cam cleats to go along with the car and they to are listed on the Catalina Direct site. The folks at CD are great to work with and most generally have the parts in stock. I've done a lot of business with them in applying upgrades to my C22's.

Thanks for posting the info and links Ole RB. That answers my question that I posted last week under the running rigging topic forum. Unfortunately it does raise anothe question for me. My 1986 was not constructed with a traveler of any sort and the stern rail does not have a cross member that could be used as the traver track nor does it have the "towel bar" rail. Therefore I would have to add a cross member to attach the car to. So my question is what diameter rail does the car need to work properly? Mybe this is a question I should be asking catalinadirect.

I am also hoping someone can aswer the rudder question I have posted under the Hull-Deck, Cabin, Keel topics forum.

Thanks so much for the web address ! I ordered the traveler car from Catalina. You were right...it even says on that part number that it's for older sailboats with the u-shaped metal traveler bars.
